Why I Love November – Gratitude and Real Estate Reflections in West Michigan

I love November. Why, you ask? It’s the calm before the holiday storm. Thanksgiving has always
been one of my favorite holidays because there’s no rush, no pressure, no expectations—just
time to slow down, enjoy good food, and be with the people who matter most. It’s one of those
rare times of year where everyone can truly relax. And let’s be honest… a little football doesn’t
hurt either!
As a realtor serving Grand Rapids and the greater West Michigan area, this time of year always
reminds me how much I appreciate my clients, my community, and the beauty around us.

Finding Beauty in the Change

When I look outside and see the trees painted in deep reds, bright yellows, and warm oranges
against the evergreens, I’m reminded how beautiful change can be. Nature has done its
work—providing shade, shelter, and fruit—and now it takes a well-earned rest.
That feels like a lesson for us, too. November invites us to slow down, reflect, and recharge
before the busy months ahead. Whether you’re a homeowner preparing for winter or someone
dreaming about buying a home in West Michigan, this season reminds us all to pause and
appreciate where we are.

Slowing Down and Savoring the Season

The days grow shorter, the air gets colder, and there’s something comforting about curling up
under a cozy blanket, turning on the fireplace, and simply being still. We can’t hibernate like
nature does, but we can embrace this slower season and start each day with gratitude.
For me, that often means being thankful for the little things—waking up healthy, enjoying a
quiet morning coffee, spending time with family and friends, or meeting wonderful new people
along the way. And of course, I’m always thankful for my clients. They’re not just transactions;
they’re people I get to help reach their goals. That’s what keeps me passionate about real
estate in Grand Rapids and beyond.

A Daily Practice of Gratitude

Last month, I attended a women’s talk with Ann Voskamp at Cornerstone, and she shared a
simple but powerful idea: set an alarm three times a day to pause and reflect on what you’re
grateful for.

I started doing it—and it truly changes your perspective. Before the day gets busy, it gives me a
chance to reset, stay centered, and remember what’s really important. Gratitude in real estate
helps me stay grounded when the market shifts or emotions run high. It’s a reminder to focus
on people first, not just the process.

My November Reflection

As the season shifts, I’m reminded that gratitude isn’t just something we celebrate on
Thanksgiving—it’s something we can live every day. November is my reminder to slow down,
notice the beauty around me, and appreciate the blessings that fill my life, big and small.
So, here’s to November: a month of peace, reflection, gratitude, and maybe just a little
pumpkin pie or a spiced Latte!
